Cartier is really asking “why not?” The brand says that by adding a few new models to the Santos-Dumont collection, the wizards at Cartier conceived a watch that could satisfy this “sky is the limit” The new Cartier Santos-Dumont Rewind Replica watch has been launched, and three new versions of the standard Santos-Dumont watch with lacquered cases have been launched.

The platinum AAA Cartier Replica has the same wearing dimensions as the regular “large” model, with a diameter of 31.5 mm, a lug-to-lug distance of 43.5 mm, and a thickness of 7.3 mm. It has a sapphire crystal, a ruby cabochon crown, and comes on an alligator leather strap with a platinum pin buckle.

The dial is made of onyx and features rhodium-plated Roman numerals and hands. You’ll notice that the numbers are reversed and the hands rotate in the opposite direction. That’s the whole trick. The paint finish is less than 1/1000mm and is polished by hand.

The dials are all the same color as the enamel, with a sunburst finish and Arabic numerals that match the case metal. The hands of these models restore the typical Cartier sword style. Aesthetically, these are lovely looking watches, but the Rewind seems to fail to strike the balance between quirkiness and functionality like the Cartier Replica Watches Swiss Movement. The lacquer box is right up my alley, though, and is a very attractive addition to the Santos-Dumont range.
